Here are some progressions of the angle of the shot and a deviation from industrial to sci-fi. I used a parallel light with ray-trace Shadows and AO. The lighting is similar to the recent rooftop tutorial. Doors, ladders, crates are also good items to use that will give things perspective.I moved the horizon down so it looked like the camera had to pan up!.The size of the grunge will help sell the scale! Add even more micro details: Lights, Pipes, Greeble. Also adding some normal map textures with various details helps give simple objects more greebles! Then added things like pipes and mechanical components at various scales to give the object more small details. I started with some pistons from the Motion Design 2 collection. And it can be pretty tricky! Having lots of smaller details in addition to large details helps give objects a sense of scale. I wanted to try to create something large-scale with Element 3D.
With the new Saber plug-in and Star Pack I’m getting better at balancing the amount of work it realistically takes to create high quality stuff as my expectations have gone up (Especially after working on Star Wars!) and I know the community wants to see more in depth and high quality tutorials and that is what we are going to focus on this year! The above video is a small taste of some of the VFX we’re doing for Intercept and yes the car crashes are rendered in Element 3D!! I don’t quite have a release date for the film but I have a target in mind and I’m working towards that goal. I know there have been some bumps in the road this past year but I finally feel like I’m back into a solid balance with life and work and family! The spinning wheels are finally gaining tracking and we’re moving forward again! Plus this week I had a chance to shoot a new Blog Show and make some big progress on my short film Intercept! DOWNLOAD STAR WARS MODEL PACK! (Place in Video Copilot model folder)Īs I started work today I was overcome with a feeling of positive energy that real progress was underway. I got a chance to see major updates on some new plug-ins we’re developing and one high-flying model pack. *Some of the names included on this page are registered trademarks of Lucasfilm.
